After so many years of working silently in the communities through child rights clubs, New Hope Foundation Zimbabwe leaders convened in Harare yesterday the 22nd of April to resuscitate the project once more, NHFZ as it is popularly known was founded in year 2000 and has history of supporting the education and child rights . Now led by Mahmooda Lowe, NHFZ will go a long way with its new activities that include, Child Education support, through Right to Education , Rights to play, Art, Community and farming activities as well as holiday life skills and farming camps.
The New Hope Foundation Zimbabwe (NHFZ) is an international non-governmental organization (NGO) that promotes UN sustainable development through arts and community initiatives, with a special focus on youth in arts, sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), and child welfare1. Founded in the year 2000, NHFZ has a rich history of supporting education and child rights. Led by Mahmooda Lowe, the organization is now revitalizing its efforts to make a positive impact in Zimbabwean communities.
Here are some key points about New Hope Foundation Zimbabwe:
Mission and Focus:
1.NHFZ serves as a hub for positive change and impactful initiatives in Zimbabwe.
2.Their programs and projects address pressing social issues, including healthcare accessibility, education disparity, and economic inequality2.
3.The organization is committed to promoting and protecting the rights of children, youths, and women through community arts and culture activism3.
Activities and Initiatives:
1.NHFZ engages in various activities to empower and uplift communities:
1.Child Education Support: Advocating for the right to education.
2.Rights to Play: Promoting recreational activities for children.
3.Art and Culture: Fostering creativity and expression through arts.
4.Community and Farming Activities: Encouraging community development and sustainable farming practices.
5.Life Skills and Farming Camps: Providing practical skills and knowledge to youth and community members14.
Global Impact:
Global March Against Child Labour 2007:
1.In 2007, the New Hope Foundation Zimbabwe (NHFZ) collaborated with various organizations, including Global March, the International Labour Organization (ILO), Save the Children UK, the British Embassy, and Terre des Hommes, to conduct the first national march from Harare to Plum Tree in Zimbabwe.
2.The primary goal of this march was to raise awareness about the issue of child labor in Zimbabwe. Children living on communal and commercial farms were being exploited as cheap labor, and the collapse of traditional economic and social structures exacerbated this exploitation.
3.NHFZ’s efforts during this march aimed to highlight the importance of free access to quality public education as a means to combat child labor. The organization advocated for policy development and reforms to address child labor and trafficking12.
Child Rights Art Books:
1.NHFZ has been actively involved in creating child-friendly resources related to constitutional rights. Specifically, they produced coloring books that focus on child rights.
2.These coloring books are now hosted online by Save the Children as valuable resources. Let’s explore the two art books:
1.“My ABC Child Rights Colouring Book”: This book promotes child rights through art. Children can engage with the content while learning about their rights.
2.“Child Rights Advocacy Through Art”: Another powerful resource, this book also emphasizes child rights through art therapy.
